Teaching Creatives with Disabilities the Skills Needed for Careers in the Entertainment Industry 

YIC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Santa Clarita, CA. We provide customized training and employment services to creatives with disabilities to acquire necessary skills to assist them in securing careers within the entertainment industry earning a competitive wage.

YIC Program

For individuals ages 18+ not currently enrolled in public school, the YIC Program prepares participants for employment within the entertainment industry through comprehensive professional development. Training includes 21st Century career skills, networking, and career exploration led by industry guest speakers, alongside personal care development and vocational support through our corporate partners. Classes are conducted virtually through an interactive platform, with monthly in-person opportunities including resume workshops, community outings, and networking events that build real-world connections in the industry.

Paid Internship (PIP) Department

The YIC Paid Internship Program connects participants with entertainment industry employers for meaningful six-month work experiences. Strategic matching ensures placements align with individual abilities and career interests across sectors including production, post-production, marketing, animation, sound, lighting, and talent management. Through hands-on training in real work environments, participants develop professional skills and industry competencies while receiving weekly instructor support and one-on-one counseling. Regular performance assessments help optimize workplace support and prepare participants for permanent employment opportunities.

Festival Project

The Festival Project is a comprehensive training program that provides adult students with disabilities hands-on experience in entertainment industry production. Students receive weekly role-based training and participate in all aspects of live event production, working directly alongside industry professionals including promoters, artists, media publicists, and event managers. Through this immersive experience, students build portfolios and professional networks while developing essential workplace skills and cross-functional communication abilities. Upon completing the year-long program, participants gain valuable work experience qualifying them for industry internships and entry-level positions.

The primary goal of YIC is to facilitate participants’ successful transition to life after high school into gainful employment. To achieve this goal, our program utilizes a person-centered planning model based on each individual’s needs, abilities, skills, personal interests and goals.

Breaking The Biz is a weekly podcast featuring candid conversations between entertainment industry leaders and YIC students/staff, exploring careers, creativity, and pathways to success, advocating for disability inclusion in the entertainment industry.
