Summer Meltdown 2008 Behind The Scenes - Inferno Media

May 2008 — The 5th annual Summer Meltdown concert took place on Saturday, May 10, 2008, at Golden Valley High School. This landmark event was entirely student-produced and open to the public. Over the previous four years, students had worked together to book more than 40 musical performers through fundraising and community building.

The 2008 concert featured rock band TRAPT as headliners. Known for their #1 US Modern Rock hit "Headstrong" and tours with Nickelback and Three Days Grace, TRAPT was the biggest act to perform at Summer Meltdown. The event also featured a special drum circle led by Stephen Perkins of Jane's Addiction.

For the 2008 show, students collaborated with teachers, local music professionals, and sponsors to book 12 acts plus special guest performers. This all-day concert experience brought together both local and professional musicians. Throughout the year, students raised funds through class fundraisers, donations, sponsorships, candy sales, and family food nights at local restaurants.

The concert was organized by the Yes I Can program, which paired general education mentors with special needs students, fostering collaboration and communication skills through the shared goal of producing this major musical event.
